On 23 June 2026, PAEMA released an atrocity alert about the situation in El Obeid, North Kordofan.
There is an imminent risk of atrocities. Some parallels can be drawn to the siege of El Fasher but what’s most important is for the lessons learned from El Fasher to not be lost. There are concrete actions that must be taken in El Obeid to protect civilians and prevent atrocities.

On Friday, June 12th 2026, the C64 coalition attempted to stage a sit-in in front of Kinshasa’s Palais du Peuple against the constitutional reform project put forward by President Tshisekedi and ruling party UDPS. Police, alongside members of the Force du Progrès (often described as the UDPS youth militia), violently repressed the protest, using tear gas, rubber bullets, live ammunition and clubs to hit protesters in the head.
PAEMA condemns the violence and calls for immediate action. -
16 April 2026 , Today, the PAEMA DRC Advocacy Cohort published its white paper titled Congolese Voices in Washington: Strengthening Civil Society Engagement in U.S. Policy on the DRC. Fifteen months into an intensified conflict in eastern DRC, successive peace processes from Nairobi to Luanda to Doha have delivered limited results, while minerals deals and investment agreements, from Chemaf to KoBold, have advanced rapidly.
This white paper reflects the experience of the DRC Advocacy Cohort over the 2025 - 2026 period, drawing on direct engagement with U.S. policymakers. It distills lessons from these interactions and highlights the structural barriers that continue to limit meaningful participation.

Following the fall of El Fasher, it is imperative that we don’t lose sight of the continued opportunities for atrocity prevention and response. This alert also serves as a call to action for the Kordofans which are at an increasing risk of atrocities, similar to those in West and North Darfur.

On 𝟐𝟏 𝐎𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟏𝟗𝟔𝟒, Sudanese civilians rose in a peaceful revolution that reshaped the nation’s political and moral landscape, demanding freedom, justice, and civilian rule.That same dream re-emerged in the 𝐃𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟐𝟎𝟏𝟖 𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, when a new generation reignited hope for a democratic Sudan. But the 𝐎𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟏 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐩 cut short that transition, and today, amid the devastating war, the people of Sudan are once again caught in the struggle for survival and dignity.
From 𝐎𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟏𝟗𝟔𝟒 to 𝐎𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟐𝟎𝟐5, the message remains the same: Civilian leadership and protection are not ideals of the past; they are the only path forward.

100 civil society organisations and humanitarian actors released a joint statement, calling for urgent civilian protection in El Fasher, the besieged capital of North Darfur.

Following the suspension of WhatsApp voice and video calls in Sudan, Access Now and PAEMA led on a joint statement of more than 60 organizations, calling for the TPRA to immediately restore full access to WhatsApp voice and video call features. The statement also calls on the international community to urgently address the protection threats people are experiencing in Sudan, and to ensure people in Sudan have access to secure and reliable internet and digital communication tools, which are essential for survival, coordination, and an effective humanitarian response.
