ABOUT
PAEMA’s Youth Vision for Sudan program invites Sudanese youth to take ownership over their own stories by sharing their perspectives on the conflict in Sudan, the impact it has had on their families and communities, and their visions for Sudan’s future.
Beginning in August 2025, a cohort of extraordinary Sudanese youth from across Sudan, including community organizers, journalists, artists, doctors, and activists, gathered together to tell the stories of Sudan through their eyes and in their own voices. Their stories are told against a backdrop of upheaval, displacement, and loss, but they emphasize the resilience, creativity, love, and hope that have sustained Sudanese families and communities throughout the conflict, and which continue to empower them today.
With the support of professional poets, documentary filmmakers, photographers, writers, and journalists, the Youth Vision for Sudan cohort has produced eight stories, each of which is a window into the experiences of Sudanese families and communities enduring the conflict. The stories are told through prose and poetry, in photographs and in recorded audio. Through them we learn how communities organized to protect themselves against violence, how families affirm their Sudanese identity through generations of displacement, how people create and recreate the concept of home, and most of all, how they find strength in themselves and their communities to endure.
